ShotStep Terms of Service
These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Harbor Muse LLC (“ShotStep,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your use of the ShotStep mobile app, account-based services, shotstep.com, and related support services—the “Service.”
By selecting “I agree” when ShotStep presents these Terms and then creating or using an account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create or use a ShotStep account.
The Privacy Policy separately explains how ShotStep handles personal information.
1. Eligibility
ShotStep’s account service is intended only for users in the United States.
You must be at least 18 years old to create or use any ShotStep account. This rule applies to both coach and player accounts.
If we reasonably learn that an account holder is under 18, we may restrict or close the account and handle its information as described in the Privacy Policy.
2. Accounts and acceptance records
ShotStep uses an email address and passwordless email code to create and access an account. You must provide accurate information, maintain access to your email account, keep sign-in codes private, and notify support@shotstep.com if you believe someone is misusing your account.
Each account has one fixed role: coach or player. An invitation from a coach creates only a player account. Users must not share accounts or use another person’s account.
ShotStep records the Terms and Privacy Policy versions accepted by an account and the acceptance time. ShotStep asks for renewed acceptance when a material revision requires it.
Users may edit the supported parts of their account name. Coaches may choose whether connected players see their first name, first name with last initial, or full name.
3. The Service and payment
ShotStep helps pickleball coaches and players keep lesson records, share practice assignments, and follow progress between lessons.
The current Service is free. It has no subscription, in-app purchase, payment-processing, commission, or marketplace feature. If ShotStep later offers a paid feature, no user will be charged without receiving and accepting separate pricing and payment terms.
ShotStep does not employ coaches, provide coaching services, or become a party to any separate arrangement between a coach and player. Any coaching fees or obligations arranged outside ShotStep remain between those people.
ShotStep may place reasonable limits on accounts, invitations, relationships, storage, or beta features. Those limits will be shown in the Service where they matter.
4. Coach-player relationships
A coach may invite a player, and the player independently chooses whether to accept or decline. The current Service supports one active coach for each player.
An accepted relationship allows the coach and player to see the shared records needed for that relationship. These may include lesson dates, lesson focus and notes, practice assignments, task instructions, due dates, repetitions, goals, and player completion status and times.
Coaches may also keep private coach notes, reminders, and concerns. Those records are not shared with the player.
A coach must have permission to provide an invited player’s name, email address, or other information. Both participants must use relationship information only for legitimate coaching purposes and respect the other person’s privacy.
A player may end an active relationship in ShotStep. Ending it stops new sharing, active homework, relationship-based reminders and notifications, and ordinary coach access to the player’s shared history. The player keeps a read-only archive of their shared lessons and completed work. The former coach keeps only the limited past-relationship information described in the Service and Privacy Policy.
Reconnecting after a relationship ends requires a new invitation and a new player decision.
5. Notifications
Notifications are optional conveniences. Users control the categories offered for their role, and device permission may also be required.
Notifications may be delayed, duplicated, or not delivered because of device settings, network conditions, provider failures, or service interruptions. Do not rely on ShotStep notifications for emergencies, urgent health concerns, or time-critical safety information.
6. User content
“User Content” means information users submit or create through ShotStep, including coaching records, assignments, notes, invitation messages, and task-completion records.
You keep whatever ownership rights you have in your User Content. You do not gain ownership of another person’s content merely because it is shared with you through a coaching relationship.
You grant Harbor Muse LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, format, transmit, display, and otherwise process User Content only as reasonably needed to:
- operate the account and coaching relationship;
- deliver invitations and notifications;
- provide support and security;
- maintain and improve the Service; and
- comply with applicable law and the Privacy Policy.
We may allow service providers acting on our behalf to perform those activities. This licence ends when the content is deleted from active systems, except for limited records, legal holds, and backup remnants that may remain as described in the Privacy Policy.
You must have the right to submit User Content. You must not submit content that is unlawful, threatening, harassing, deceptive, infringing, malicious, or unnecessarily exposes another person’s private information.
7. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use ShotStep for an unlawful or fraudulent purpose;
- access or attempt to access another person’s account or records without permission;
- bypass access controls or interfere with the Service;
- upload malware or harmful code;
- scrape, reverse engineer, or automate access except where ShotStep expressly permits it or applicable law protects the activity;
- impersonate, harass, threaten, exploit, or harm another person;
- misuse invitations, notifications, coaching records, or support channels; or
- use ShotStep to store emergency, medical, or other information that requires guaranteed availability.
ShotStep does not promise to monitor every account or coaching record.
8. Coaching and physical safety
ShotStep supplies record-keeping and communication software. It does not provide coaching, medical advice, physical therapy, diagnosis, emergency assistance, or a guarantee of athletic improvement.
Coaching instructions and judgments come from users. ShotStep does not routinely review or endorse them. ShotStep does not currently perform background checks or guarantee a coach’s identity, qualifications, safety, conduct, or suitability.
Pickleball and physical exercise can cause injury. Users remain responsible for evaluating their health, surroundings, equipment, supervision, and the suitability of an activity or coach. Stop an activity and seek qualified medical help when appropriate. Call emergency services for an emergency.
Coaches remain responsible for their services, statements, conduct, legal duties, and appropriate handling of player information.
9. Suspension and termination
You may stop using ShotStep at any time. A player may end a coaching relationship without deleting either account. An account holder may separately request account deletion.
ShotStep may restrict, suspend, or close an account when reasonably necessary to address:
- ineligibility;
- fraud or misuse;
- a security or privacy risk;
- unlawful conduct;
- a serious or repeated breach of these Terms;
- protection of another user; or
- a legal or platform requirement.
When reasonably practical, we will explain the action and provide a support route. We may act without advance notice when delay would create a material safety, security, legal, or privacy risk or when the law prohibits notice.
When an account ends, the right to use it ends. Provisions that logically need to continue—including ownership, limited retained-content rights, warranty disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms—survive.
10. Account deletion and privacy
A user may start a deletion request through ShotStep Settings or at shotstep.com/delete-account. ShotStep verifies control of the account email before queuing the request.
A verified request freezes new account activity and revokes active sessions. Queuing a request is not completed deletion, and the account cannot be restored merely by signing in again.
We send an immediate automated acknowledgment, aim to provide a human response within five business days, and aim to complete a verified request within 30 calendar days. If lawful completion requires more time, we will notify the requester before that target date when legally permitted and provide a reason and revised date.
Deletion outcomes differ by role because shared coaching records involve two people. A player deletion removes the player’s account and associated coaching content, subject to limited retained audit or legal records. A coach deletion may preserve a player’s own lesson and practice archive while replacing the coach’s identity with “Former coach.”
The Privacy Policy describes the complete deletion process, limited retention exceptions, provider and backup handling, and any non-identifying statistics that may remain.
11. ShotStep property and app stores
Except for User Content and third-party material, Harbor Muse LLC and its licensors own the Service, software, design, branding, and service content.
While your account is active, ShotStep gives you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose. You may not copy, sell, sublicense, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service except where applicable law or an applicable open-source licence permits it.
When the iOS app is made available through Apple’s App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs the licence to the iOS application. These Terms govern the ShotStep service. Apple is not the provider of ShotStep’s coaching service.
Other app stores and service providers may apply their own terms to your relationship with them.
12. Service availability and changes
ShotStep is an early-stage service. It may experience interruptions, errors, delayed notifications, or loss of particular features. We do not promise continuous availability or a service-level commitment.
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features. When a change materially affects account use or access to coaching records, we will provide reasonable notice when practical.
We may revise these Terms. For a material revision, we will provide reasonable notice, identify the new effective date, and ask you to affirmatively accept the revised Terms before they govern continued account use. A material revision will not apply retroactively to a dispute that arose before its effective date unless the law requires it or you expressly agree.
If you do not accept a material revision, you may stop using ShotStep and request account deletion. We may close continued access under the previous Terms after reasonable notice.
Corrections, contact updates, and changes that do not materially reduce user rights may take effect when posted with an updated revision date.
13. Warranty disclaimer
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ShotStep is provided “as is” and “as available.”
Harbor Muse LLC does not promise that the Service will always be available, secure, error-free, complete, or suitable for every coaching purpose. We do not guarantee the accuracy of User Content, delivery of notifications, preservation of every record, the conduct of any user, or any coaching or athletic result.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Harbor Muse LLC disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
Nothing in these Terms excludes an express promise made in these Terms or a warranty or consumer right that applicable law does not permit us to exclude.
14. Limitation of liability
Please read this section carefully.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Harbor Muse LLC and its officers, employees, contractors, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, lost data, or loss of goodwill arising from or related to the Service.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, their total combined liability arising from or related to the Service will not exceed the greater of:
- US$100; or
- the amount you paid directly to Harbor Muse LLC for ShotStep during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory and even if the possibility of damage was known.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or another liability that applicable law does not permit us to limit.
15. Resolving disputes; Arizona law
Before filing a lawsuit, you and Harbor Muse LLC agree to send a written description of the dispute and requested resolution to legal@shotstep.com and try in good faith to resolve it for 30 days.
This informal process does not prevent either party from seeking urgent court relief, meeting a legal filing deadline, using an eligible small-claims court, or contacting a government agency.
Arizona law governs these Terms without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that these Terms do not take away consumer rights under the law of a user’s home state when those rights cannot legally be waived.
A qualifying small-claims case may be brought in Maricopa County, Arizona, or in the county where the user lives. Any other lawsuit must be brought in the state courts located in Maricopa County, Arizona, or the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, unless applicable law gives the user a non-waivable right to another forum.
These Terms do not require arbitration and do not contain a class-action waiver.
16. General terms and contact
These Terms and any additional feature terms you expressly accept form the entire agreement between you and Harbor Muse LLC concerning the Service. The Privacy Policy separately describes personal-information practices.
If part of these Terms is unenforceable, it will be adjusted only as much as necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue.
A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your account or these Terms. Harbor Muse LLC may assign these Terms as part of a merger, financing, reorganisation, or sale of the Service or business, subject to applicable notice and privacy obligations.
Headings are included for readability and do not change the meaning of these Terms. No person other than you and Harbor Muse LLC is a beneficiary of these service Terms.
